{wear} statement bags: say it with an exclamation point

11 Sep

I’m an accessories girl. Pair great shoes, bags, jewelry with jeans and a tee shirt and you can’t go wrong. I’m loving that the statement bag is on trend this season. It’s the punctuation mark of style. Exclamation points encouraged!

{wear} 13 must-have fall fashion trends to buy …now.

6 Sep

Fall is undoubtably my favorite time of year. In a perfect world I would spend the whole season in New York from just after Labor Day until the first snow of winter. Fall foliage, brisk fall air, cashmere, pumpkin-flavored everything, the holiday festiveness that invades at Thanksgiving, maybe a mitten… my perfect world is pretty good. But no matter the Coast, I love Fall fashion. After a hot summer of minimal layers, sometimes a girl just needs a sweater, and leather leggings, and faux fur everything, and boots. Don’t forget the boots. BOOTS! With no further ado, enjoy my favorite, lucky 13, trends for Fall.

{decorspiration} blac-cent walls

29 Aug

Whilst talking to myself in my head about this post, I decided to roll with a new word hyphenate – blac-cent. Black accent. It felt like a funny idea at the time. Not sure it’s going to hold up. Nevertheless, a black accent wall is oft considered a bold move. Mostly because it’s really hard to paint over it once you’ve done it, so it’s a pretty high commitment on the paint scale.

Personally, I’m a fan. I fear neither boldness, nor commitments. Here’s why…

less a wall, and more the cabinets, but a similar effect nonetheless

{wear} flat-out fab

28 Aug

Ahh, shoes. Even for the heel-obsessed, vertically-challenged (yours truly), flats are a necessary staple to every stylish wardrobe. While helping a friend shop for a new and improved wardrobe over the weekend, I was inspired by super fun flat styles like the smoking slipper trend, spike adornments, and embroidered skulls and mustaches that might just be enough to make me take an extended break from my stilettos… Ok, not a chance, but every good shoe deserves its moment.

{wear} camo girl

22 Aug

The camo trend is back and I’m pretty happy about it. I love a good casual trend to take us through the end of summer and into the fall. Pair them with a patriotic tank, some killer heels, and a pop of purse color. Don’t forget the metallic mani!

{wear} striped dress obsessed

14 Aug

I am obsessed with striped dresses. OB-SESS-ED. Dressed up, dressed down, boho, uptown — they go any way you want them. I own this H&M version (thank you, $13), and one of my favorite looks as of late includes sheer breezy layers that deftly shield the summer sun and evening chills. Go glam with gold accessories and perhaps a mixed metal or two, and of course sky high-wedges and you’ve got yourself a serious outfit. I wore a similar combo this past weekend to a birthday BBQ during this lovely LA heat wave…

{wear} a high-tops & floral maxi story

8 Aug

I finally got onboard with the fashion sneaker trend. Recently, I snapped up the Topshop wedge high-tops featured here, and my first order of business was to figure out how to wear them and look chic (as opposed to a trend train-wreck). For my tall friends, it’s the fight against clumpy, while for me it’s stumpy. Whichever ‘umpy’ you are, it’s a similar plight in balancing proportions and feminine flair. So far, my favorite combo is the floral maxi dress, a la below…

  1. Rachel Zoe Natasha Scarf Collar Gown, $695
  2. Aerobic Wedge Trainers, $96
  3. American Apparel Large Suede Carry-All Pouch, $56
  4. Karla Deras X RomanLuxe Multi Python Bracelet, $88

{beauty} tried + true faves

31 Jul

Good products should not be underestimated. I have favorites that I always have on hand while also keeping a few new ones in testing rotation — like my never-ending search for a day SPF moisturizer. When I find a keeper, I stick with it. Here are some of my favorites, hopefully you will love them as much as I do!

danielle deojay, sequins and ponies, beauty products

  1. Dermalogica Multi-Active Toner, $24 – my favorite toner – not too harsh.
  2. Ain’t Misbehavin’ Medicated AHA/BHA Acne Cleanser, $25 – My favorite cleanser means business.
  3. Maybelline The Falsies Mascara in Blackest Black, $8 – My favorite mascara is $8!
  4. Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink, $22 – I keep my makeup routine simple. I vary my look by the intensity of my eye liner, and sometimes with bright pink or red lipstick. This liner rocks. I’m so addicted, I rarely leave home without it.
  5. Nars Bronzer in Laguna – $34 – The best bronzer for a healthy glow and some cheek bone definition.
  6. Bobbi Brown Ultra Fine Eyeliner Brush, $25 – This brush is key for proper application of the liner, above.
  7. Yes to Cucumbers Hypoallergenic Facial Towelettes, $6 – Perfect to keep in your bag for long days at the beach or for freshening between work and evening plans.
  8. Nature’s Way EfaGold Coconut Oil, $12 – The best, most natural, body moisturizer — apply post shower while still wet allows the oil to absorb better & therefore prevents that greasy feeling.
  9. de-luxe BAIN Body Polish in Rosemary Mint, $10 – A salt scrub is essential for a once per week intense exfoliation. This one is great & a refreshing herbal scent is the best.
  10. C.O. Bigelow Mentha Exfoliating Soap – $7.50 – I’m a sucker for things scrubby and minty. This soap is both.
  11. Neutrogena Body Clear Body Wash, Pink Grapefruit – $7 – For post-workout or especially sweaty days.
  12. Earth Therapeutics Exfoliating Hydro Gloves, $6 – Scrubby gloves, as I call them, are part of my daily routine with one of my many scrubs/body washes.
  13. Neutrogena Rainbath Shower Gel, $25 – Hands down my favorite shower gel. Great scent that’s fairly gender-neutral and leaves skin feeling clean, but not dry and free from icky residue.
  14. Walgreens Epsom Salt, $6 – Not very glamourous, but something I learned from curing hoof abscesses in my horse – epsom salt is great at drawing out toxins. Take a bath in epsom salt (or soak swollen feet) when you’re feeling puffy. I like this eucalyptus scent.
  15. TIGI Bed Head Ego Boost Leave-In Conditioner, $12 – My favorite affordable leave-in so far. Tames my curls just enough while moisturizing my hair. I love it when a product is equally effective and beneficial.
  16. Josie Maran Argan Oil – $48 – My night moisturizer.
