Short weeks tend to be unavoidably rough. The weekend just can’t come back again quickly enough. Summer may be officially over, but there’s no shortage of sunshine here in LA. Although after a little Fall shopping, I can’t wait for some cool nights to break out some faux fur!

Levitated Mass at sunset

Over the weekend, I visited LACMA to see what all the fuss is about over Levitated Mass — the 340 ton granite rock. My impression? I thought 340 tons would be bigger, but it’s pretty cool, and a decent photo subject.

Everyone started taking ‘I’m holding the rock’ photos after this shot. French Connection dress, House of Harlow necklace, Louis Vuitton bag, DV Dolce Vita pink heels (not shown)

Post-rock, a visit to Stark Bar for cocktails and shared plates, open air modern seating, serious cocktails, and a generally great LA evening.

{eat} bistro-y bar food

turkey sloppy joes

Like any super skilled multi-tasker, I’m all about combining things like a business dinner with a blog-worthy outing with catching up with a friend. And, if good food is part of the equation, we’ll call that a win-win-win-win. Such was the case last week, when I visited The Six (Studio City location).

Not usually a fan of sloppy joes, or anything sloppy for that matter, I was surprised to really like the turkey version in slider form –perfect for sharing — and a fried pickle topper added a little zing. Perfectly seasoned cauliflower for the table and fresh salads balanced out the sloppy tasty indulgence.

Added bonuses: free parking, a convenient traffic-avoiding after-work location, and a very cute patio. That’s like win-squared times 2.

{eat} bistro-y bites

14 Dec

Monday turned into movie night after a rainy day at the office. Refreshingly not wrapped up in a pretty bow and dryly funny, Young Adult was a fun getaway from the dampness. Slightly starving, we wandered into a bistro-y tavern of the Westside variety… What happened next was a yummy surprise.

a couple of my favorites "B's" -- beets & burrata

oops one more B -- crispy brussels sprouts with prosciutto

mussels with bacon, leeks, whole grain mustard

{eat} a tale of two pizzas

8 Dec

This past weekend accidently turned into a battle of the pizzas with consecutive dinners at two rivaling trendy pizza spots on opposite sides of town.

One, Urbano Pizza, Downtown. Big points for decor and general warm, rustic, but modern ambiance, and for serving wine in table glasses. The Caponata was fresh, comforting, and delicious and the pizza…oh the pizza. Amazing.

warm caponata - market fresh & delicious

SELVATICA burrata, roasted tomatoes, pesto, pignoli

Next up was Stella Rosa in Santa Monica. The burrata appetizer really stole the show on this one, but the quality of the pepperoni was above and beyond.

besides my obsession with burrata in general, this was awesome. Those are roasted grapes!

the crust was almost too much of a contrast to the base crust, but delicious nonetheless
